Marshall House – Savannah, Georgia

The Marshall House served as a hospital during the Civil War as well as two yellow fever epidemics. Hotel guests have since reported seeing ghosts in the halls, hearing children running through halls, and even experiencing faucets turn on by themselves! The tales go on and on, and even the local ghost tours add to the stories.

Architectural History

More than just a spooky adventure, Savannah, GA offers southern charm, where visitors can immerse themselves in architectural history, shop trendy boutiques, enjoy plenty of coastal cuisine, and haunted stories. Just last year, this award-winning hotel took second place for the Best Haunted Hotel by USA Today.

Hotel St. Michael – Prescott, Arizona

While you won’t find mention of ghosts and paranormal activity on the St. Michael Hotel website, what you will find is a beautiful historic hotel featuring art deco styling and notable woodwork. It features locally-owned shops inside that boast unique souvenirs like rare books, Indian arts, antiques, and other artwork and collectibles. St. Michael is in walking distance of the once infamous Whiskey Row, which is now home to a robust nightlife.

Hauunted Elevator

With claims of a haunted elevator as well as a female ghost who resides in room 315 and leaves a trail of strong perfume, St. Michael offers the perfect mix of historic beauty, scenic views, and of course, hauntingly good times and tales.

Hawthorne Hotel – Salem, MA

A proud member of the Historic Hotels of America, this hotel sits in the heart of Salem making it a primo spot for haunted tales. The hotel first opened its doors to the public in 1925. In 1970, a scene from the popular show Bewitched was filmed in the hotel as well as the popular elevator scene. It’s no surprise it was from the Beeitched Salem Saga.

Paranormal Activity

While a special séance to summon Harry Houdini in 1990 proved to be unsuccessful, the hotel has gained notoriety for its paranormal activity. According to Historic Hotels of America, it’s ranked one of the most haunted hotels in America with reports of moving furniture, sightings of a ghostly woman, and unexplained noises.

Bourbon Orleans Hotel – New Orleans, Louisiana

Before its claim to fame as a hotel, Bourbon Orleans went through several transitions, opening first as Théâtre d’Orléans in 1815 and after being destroyed by a fire, reopened again in 1817. The theater became the first of its kind in the US, making New Orleans the opera capital of America. After a second devastating fire in 1866, the theater was later purchased by the Sisters of the Holy Family in 1881 and turned into a convent. It wasn’t until 1964 that the Bourbon Orleans Hotel earned its place on the map, one it still holds today.

Confederate Soldier Ghost

Steeped in history, paranormal stories include a confederate soldier (on the 6th and 3rd floor), children’s footsteps in the hallways, a ghost seen dancing under a chandelier in the ballroom, and someone hiding behind the drapes.  Ranked among the top 10 most haunted US hotels according to USA Today, visitors can also sign up for a 2-hour Ghosts & Sprits Walking Tour around the French Quarter for even more chilling stories.
